Leading disability rights advocate Rosemary Kayess will give the 2020 Human Rights Day Oration today.

Last year’s Human Rights Medal winner, and a contributor to the drafting of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), Rosemary Kayess will discuss the social transformation of CRPD and the impact it has had on the community as well as her work with the Disability Royal Commission.

Rosemary will be in conversation with ABC’s disability affairs reporter, Nas Campanella.

““Rosemary Kayess’ tireless advocacy for equal rights for people with disability has made the world a better place for so many people,” said �����鱨վ President Emeritus Professor Rosalind Croucher AO.

“Last year, the Commission was delighted to award Rosemary the Human Rights Medal, which is given to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the promotion and protection of human rights in Australia. We’re very pleased to have her back again to give the Human Rights Day Oration on Human Rights Day (10 December).

“This year’s event will be the first time the Oration has been held online, rather than in person. We hope this will enable people, wherever they are in Australia, to join us at the Commission’s biggest human rights celebration of the year.”

The Human Rights Day Oration is delivered each year on 10 December, the Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

The 2020 Human Rights Day Oration will run from 11am until 12noon on Thursday 10 December 2020.
